Well here we are at the beginning of a new year (2012).
Last year was a strange one really although overall we had a good year we had very unpredictable sales patterns, the months we usually do well in were quiet whilst the months we are usually quiet in were incredibly busy, December is a month that rarely produces any great sales but we sold 18 cars before Christmas. This year has got off to a good start on all models apart from Boxsters which really start to take off in early spring.
The biggest problem we are having at the moment is sourcing good stock especially by virtue of their age the earlier cars like the 996s 993s 964s and 3.2 Carreras. The main reason being that every car we look at needs fortunes spent on it and the vendors are simply not accepting the fact that their cars need work to bring them up to the standard we want then to be to retail them. A good car will sell for a good price and the cheaper cars that are advertised privately are cheap for a reason unless you are the luckiest person in world and get a genuine well looked after bargain.
We are very fortunate in having our own on site mechanics allowing us to carry out any work needed at a reasonable cost.
The 997s and Caymans have their own problems with scored liners being very common, we are buying 1 for every 3 we look at and will not buy them without checking for over revs and putting a scope down no 6 cylinder.
Unfortunately most of the time there are no obvious signs the engine is damaged and we regularly hear "oh well I will part exchange it for something else" or "I will put it in an Auction" . The damage generally happens when the engine is either over revved or ragged from cold so if we check an engine and it is good then as long as it is treated properly will give no problems going forward. A lot of these cars end up on non Porsche specialist sites and are sold with a generic insurance warranty that is worthless when the engine gives up.
If we knowingly buy a car with a damaged engine we remove it and send it to Hartech Engineering who have invested heavily in machinery to rebuild the engines strengthening the weak points making them better than the originals.

ALSO WE ARE HAPPY TO CARRY THE OLDER CARS THAT THE MAIN DEALERS SHY AWAY FROM AS THEY REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEM. THERE ARE PROBABLY SOME GREAT SALESMEN IN SOME OF THE MAIN DEALERS BUT THEY ARE RARELY TRUE PORSCHE ENTHUSIASTS WHO HAVE COME UP THROUGH THE RANKS AND HAVE DEALT IN THE MARQUE FOR MORE THAN A FEW YEARS. I HAVE PERSONALLY BEEN HERE SINCE 1982 AND HAVE PROBABLY HANDLED EVERY MODEL MADE, MARTIN HAS BEEN HERE FOR NEARLY AS LONG STARTING WITH ME WHEN HE WAS 14 CLEANING CARS. THIS IS TRUE PORSCHE EXPERIENCE.

I take and post the pics (The best pic in the world will not give you a true impression of condition, you need to see the cars in the flesh) and do the copy we do not employ a tech man, apart from the fact I enjoy it it keeps costs down one of the reasons we are able to offer the keenest priced Porsches in the UK. We are all very hands on here and all have our own particular skills, Martin has been with me for longer than I care to remember and has a thorough understanding of the business as a whole. Our mechanics are brilliant and if they can save you money they will.
My son, Ollie, has been with us for a number of years now, and as such he's a fully fledged & valued member of the team, he also has the enthusiasm to ensure that the business will be here for many years to come.
